I know, visuals are the entire purpose of Instagram. Those postcard perfect pictures and light, bright and airy feeds are what draw in the followers BUT brands especially, need to put a voice behind that picture.
Uploading a beautiful picture with zero caption is less likely to receive any engagement as opposed to something with a little personality behind it.
What is the style of your brand? How do you want to come across to your customers?
Entice your followers into engaging with your post. Ask a question in the caption, encourage them to share their experience or invite them to tag their friends.
So, how do you actually choose your all important caption?
Don’t Rush – Yes, there are certain times you ‘should’ be posting but don’t panic and rush to get something haphazard up for the sake of time. It’s about quality, not quantity.
Your Voice – Are you witty, serious or informative? Know your brand’s voice and choose something fitting and relevant. The Instagram character limit is 2,200 characters so keep captions to around 3 or 4 lines.
Nobody goes scrolls through to read an essay now do they?
Ideas – Come up with a couple of caption ideas for the same post and bounce them off a few of your colleagues and see which gets the best response. Go with the most popular.
Emoji’s – Not an emoji user? Well, maybe you should think of rectifying this.
Adding emoji’s can catch your audience’s eye with a little colour and also portray feelings visually.
